Giving thanks to all of Kentucky’s outstanding teachers

I had the privilege in September of presiding over my first in-person Kentucky Teacher of the Year ceremony at the Kentucky State Capitol Rotunda. There are two parts of my job that I find the most enjoyable. The first is when I get to visit classrooms and see our students deeply involved in learning.

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield has announced winners of its Education Excellence Awards, a new program that aims to recognize Kentucky teachers, staff and administrators who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to achieve education excellence in 2020 and 2021.

Taking the time to thank December’s heroes

Everybody’s favorite neighbor Fred Rogers said when he was young and saw something that scared him, his mother would tell him to look for the helpers. In the days since tornadoes left a wide swath of death and destruction in western Kentucky, I have heard about so many of the people who work in our public schools who volunteered to be one of those helpers.
