Family engagement has been the backbone of the Head Start and preschool program since its conception in the 1960s.
Two of the early childhood centers in the Washington County school district – North Washington Early Childhood and Washington County Early Childhood – earned 2023 Family Friendly Schools certification, along with four other schools in the district.
I attended the Prichard Committee’s Groundswell Summit held at Floyd Central High School in June. This annual event brings together Kentucky educators, families, administrators and other community leaders who are seeking new and innovative ideas for increasing student success, with a special focus on family engagement.
Once I became aware of the mission and goals of the Family Friendly Schools partnership, and had the opportunity to work with some wonderful people, I realized that it was something worth investing in.
