The U. S. Department of Education named five Kentucky public schools as 2016 National Blue Ribbon Schools, based on their overall academic excellence.
Though the school is known for its performing arts, academics are also important at the Fayette County school.
The school, which began as a two-room schoolhouse more than 150 years ago, now thrives on tradition, parental involvement and community support.
Murray High School students start their day with a hug at the front door, then enter an atmosphere in which both they and their teachers are held to high standards.
High expectations for students and the community’s high expectations for its school have driven Bush Elementary to success.
Beechwood Elementary, Bush Elementary, Murray High School and The School for the Creative and Performing Arts in Fayette County are among 335 public and private, elementary, middle and high schools across the country recognized by the U. S. Department of Education as 2015 National Blue Ribbon Schools
A positive atmosphere, lots of celebration, team work, and high expectations for all students all helped Central Elementary become a national Blue Ribbon school.
Teachers say the positive atmosphere and data driven instruction at Tompkinsville Elementary has helped the school go from the 35th percentile of all Kentucky elementary schools to being awarded a Blue Ribbon in 2014.
