Growing up in Rockcastle County, teaching was never something Tammy Camel thought she would want to do. Now, she’s the winner of the 2021 National ACTE Carl Perkins Community Service Award for her work as a family and consumer sciences teacher at her alma mater, Rockcastle County High School.
For many, it has taken a global pandemic to remind them of the importance of basic life skills. With restaurants closed and stay-at-home mandates, a growing number of adults have turned to online tutorials, social media recipes, and family and friends to learn basic life skills.
About 200 Kentucky Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) members and advisers joined more than 8,700 other attendees at the largest annual FCCLA National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, Calif., in July.
Several Kentucky Family, Career and Community Leaders of America members, state officers and their advisers attended the National FCCLA Capital Leadership conference in Washington, D.C., Nov. 8-10.
Kentucky’s Family Career Community Leaders of America programs are being encouraged to “paint their town red with community service” by dedicating one day during the week of Oct. 29- Nov. 4 to take action and make a difference in their community.
