The Kentucky Department of Education has started a new program of regional arts specialists. Teachers, schools and districts will be able to utilize these individuals as an arts resource for their school and district.
Within the Every Student Succeeds Act, terminology such as “well-rounded” is utilized to describe the expectations for a child’s educational needs. With both the arts and music being a part of this definition, new sources of funding have become available to support these content areas.

Dennis Minnis Dennis Minnis, a physical education teacher at North Bullitt High School (Bullitt County), has been named the 2016 Elementary School Physical Education Teacher of the Year by the Kentucky Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (KAHPERD). The Visiting Teachers from Spain program enables local school districts in Kentucky to hire highly qualified, licensed, native Spanish-speaking educators to teach at elementary, middle and high schools.
Through a collaborative effort between schools in western Kentucky and Grace English School in Guatemala, several hundred Kentucky students are learning about Spanish language and culture, while more than 100 Guatemalan students are learning both written and spoken English.

This year at Owingsville Elementary School, kindergarten through 5th-grade students will get the chance to learn the basics of the Spanish language from a native of the country.
