A new mathematics formative assessment lesson (FAL) has been posted to the Kentucky Department of Education’s formative assessment webpage.

This new elementary FAL assesses grade 1 level math standards in the domain of Number and Operations in Base Ten. The new lesson – “Pieces of a Hundreds Chart Version 2 (bottom-up hundred chart)” – was inspired and designed from an article by Jennifer Bay-Williams and Graham Fletcher published in the November/December issue of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics’ publication, Teaching Children Mathematics. The article focuses on providing students experiences with multiple representations of mathematical tools.
