Learning from Kentucky’s Classrooms Conference
Sept. 8-9, Bowling Green
Learn from Kentucky educators during the 3rd Annual Learning from Kentucky’s Classrooms Conference. Pre-session workshops, school visits and conference sessions will focus on lessons learned in forward-thinking instruction and instructional systems that make a difference for Our Children, Our Commonwealth.

The sessions include:

  • Commonwealth Acceleration Study Sites (CASS)
    Five school districts in western Kentucky will open their doors Sept. 8 to educators from across Kentucky who wish to learn from their improvement planning, efforts and processes, or partner with host districts in the improvement process. Each site will provide opportunities to learn from teachers, principals and administrators regarding their instructional transformation efforts.
  • Learning from Kentucky’s Classrooms ’17 conference sessions
    Learn from Kentucky educators on Sept. 9 during 15 engaging conference sessions on topics such as peer coaching, learning walks and formative assessment. The keynote address will be by Aaron Thompson, executive vice-president of the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education.
  • The Power of Progressions: Untangling the Knotty Areas of Teaching and Learning Mathematics K-6 with Graham Fletcher, (limited to 60 participants)
    In this two-day workshop scheduled for Sept. 8-9, we’ll explore the power of math progressions from kindergarten to 6th grade. We will examine the developmental progression of models, strategies and concepts in the areas of addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, and fractions. Participants will learn to harness the power of 3-act tasks and other high-yield activities to identify where student understanding is along these progressions, as well as to keep student thinking moving in the right direction.

The annual Mathematics Awards Banquet will be Nov. 3. A call for nominations for the Ann S. Booth Mathematics Education Service Award will be posted soon. Nominees must be members of KCTM to be considered for this award.
