Sumer Starks graduated in 2010 from Calloway County High School, where she was an active member of the business department. She learned the basics of accounting, marketing and business administration before ever entering college at Murray State.
“I felt very ahead of the game compared to my college classmates not only because of my knowledge, but also because I gained six hours of college credit while in high school,” said Starks.
Starks pursued a degree in public relations with a minor in advertising. After completing college in 2014, she moved to Austin, Texas, first working for a medical device company as a professional education program coordinator, then for one of the largest hospitals in Austin as its communications and community affairs coordinator. She recently accepted a position as a senior account manager for a real estate marketing agency in Austin.
“My experience taught me what it’s like to work in an office setting, how to manage my time and how to proofread,” she said. “I wish every student had the opportunity to learn as much as I did about the ‘real world’ while in high school.”
