The Kentucky Department of Education is seeking nominations for the Kentucky School for the Blind (KSB) Advisory Board. The current vacancy is for a KSB alumnus member.

KRS 167.035 states there may be established a KSB Advisory Board. The board is comprised of five members appointed by the Kentucky Board of Education (KBE) upon the recommendation of the commissioner of education. Members serve for terms of four years and until their successors are appointed.

To include relevant communities on the KSB advisory board, the board’s bylaws define eligibility as members who may be representative of the following groups:

  1. Parent of a currently enrolled student;
  2. A representative of a community business partner engaged with the KSB;
  3. An alumnus;
  4. A local school district or representative from a Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) Regional Special Education Cooperative; and an
  5. At-large member from a group or agency that has a service mission and interest in the education of students who are blind or visually impaired.

The purpose of the board is to act in an advisory capacity to assist school leadership and make recommendations to the commissioner of education concerning all areas relating to the effective operation of the school.

Self-nominations must be emailed to Shannon Sparkman by May 9 at 4 p.m. ET. Please include your name, address, phone number, email address and area of representation, along with a resume and cover letter.

By submitting a self-nomination, you are signifying that you are willing to serve on the KSB Advisory Board if recommended by the commissioner of education and appointed by the Kentucky Board of Education.
