Matthew Courtney, Ed.D., the policy advisor to the Kentucky Department of Education’s (KDE’s) Office of Continuous Improvement and Support, will serve as chair of the Education Knowledge Broker Network.
Courtney will serve a one-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2025, after completing his tenure as chair elect. Following his term, he will transition to chair emeritus.
The Education Knowledge Broker Network, an organization dedicated to fostering equity and evidence-informed decision-making in education, strives to shape policies and practices that center around democratizing evidence. With an emphasis on authentic stakeholder engagement and a commitment to addressing historical inequities, the network’s mission is to cultivate a professional community of knowledge brokers who advocate for inclusive, ethical and collaborative educational practices.
As chair, Courtney will lead efforts to expand and support the knowledge brokering profession, promote equitable participation in evidence production and use, and advance policies that facilitate sustainable, impactful brokering practices within educational systems.
“In my role as chair, I’m committed to breaking down barriers that prevent schools from accessing and using evidence,” Courtney said. “Knowledge brokers play an important role in expanding the reach of evidence-based practices across the nation and in supporting and empowering educators as they make informed decisions to support student success.”
Courtney joins a legacy of KDE leadership in national education networks, advancing KDE’s commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous improvement across the Commonwealth’s public education system.
