The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) is seeking public comment on the state’s waiver request to extend the period of eligibility for Title I, Part A funds in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The request for the waiver, which will be submitted to the U.S. Department of Education (USED), is meant to address the extraordinary situation stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic and would give districts more time to spend down their funds.
In addition to Title I, Part A funding, KDE is seeking extended timelines for Title I, Part D, Subpart 2; Title I, Part B; Title I, Part C; Title I, Part D, Subpart 1; Title II, Part A; Title III, Part A; Title IV, Part A; Title IV, Part B; Title V, Part B, and the McKinney-Vento Education for Homeless Children and Youth program.
The full waiver can be accessed online on KDE’s website. To request an accessible version, please email Meredith Brewer, director of education policy for KDE.
The public comment period on the addendum to Kentucky’s state plan will be held April 11-20. Public comments must be received by 5 p.m. ET on April 20.
Comments may be emailed to kdecommunications@education.ky.gov or submitted to Todd Allen, General Counsel, Kentucky Department of Education, 300 Sower Blvd, 5th Floor, Frankfort, KY 40601. Comments also may be submitted via fax at (502) 564-9321. All comments that are received during the window will be considered before submission of the waiver to USED.
