“Guiding Children – Inspiring Futures,” the vision of the Morgan County school district, is evidenced by the work being done by the staff, teachers and students.
Under Superintendent Barnett’s leadership, various initiatives drive the daily operations of schools in Morgan County. Those include East Valley Elementary School’s “Lead Like an Eagle” program where 5th-grade students are paired with those in earlier grades for tutoring in reading, technology and character building activities.
Ezel Elementary School’s mentoring program is based on the Kentucky Department of Education’s Persistence to Graduation Tool where teachers continuously monitor at-risk students and ensure they make continued progress.
Morgan Central Elementary students track their own assessment results and set goals using student data notebooks and tracking progress on their data wall.
Wrigley Elementary School is currently in its first-year implementation of The Leader In Me program where students demonstrate that “a leader does the right thing…even when nobody is looking.”
Morgan County Middle School’s emphasis on participation in the National Junior Honor Society has resulted in more than 120 student members and Morgan County High School’s continuous focus is on college- and career-readiness.
Schools also have seen increases in students’ EXPLORE, PLAN and ACT scores.
The district includes two Schools of Distinction, a High Progress School and one Blue Ribbon School.
Also, beginning this year, all Morgan County schools benefit from Chinese culture and language instruction, which is funded through the University of Kentucky Confucius Institute.
