Williamstown Independent boasts a rich tradition of excellence. Its mission is “Engaging, educating and empowering all students for college and career readiness.”
Under Superintendent Sally Skinner’s leadership, the district has many accomplishments. The district is partnering with the University of Kentucky in its P20 Innovation Lab and Next Generation Leadership initiative. Through this partnership, the district is working on a variety of personalized learning pathways which not only include highly effective teachers and world class knowledge/skills, but also mastery learning, student agency, digital resources and anytime, anywhere learning.
The district began a 1-to-1 technology initiative that included teacher training in 21st-century learning strategies, purchasing more than 200 iPads for student use and outfitting facilities with wireless access to implement a bring-your-own-device program. The district continues to add to its devices and now includes a bus equipped with Wi-Fi.
The number of career programs available to our students also has increased, with a new agricultural program and the return of Family and Consumer Science classes. In partnership with Northern Kentucky University and Gateway Community and Technical College, the district’s dual credit program has expanded; several seniors have graduated with as many as 36 college credit hours. Dual credit courses are available to our students at no or a minimal cost through the Williamstown Independent Scholarship Educational Trust.
In 2012, Williamstown Independent received district accreditation from AdvancEd. The Williamstown Senior High School has received either silver or bronze medalist recognition from U.S. News and World Report’s “Best High School” rankings three of the last five years. The high school also has been a School of Distinction as determined by the state accountability model, while Williamstown Independent is a Proficient district.
Superintendent Skinner and the district team continue to build collaborative relationships with students, families and community stakeholders in order to create a world-class educational system. Working together, all continuously strive to make Williamstown Independent the best reason for living in Williamstown.
