Cindy Baumert has been named director of the Governor’s Commonwealth Institute for Parent Leadership (GCIPL), a program of the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence.
Baumert is a 2000 graduate of the program, which helps parents become knowledgeable and effective partners in efforts to improve local schools. She also has been a member of the Prichard Committee and its board of directors. Before joining the Institute, she trained parents through a federally funded initiative to understand the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and counseled them on the special education process and their legal rights.
Her experience in education includes membership on the Youth Service Center advisory board, the Kentucky Association of School Councils board, the Kentucky Department of Education’s Commissioner’s Parents Advisory Council, PTA and the Greater Louisville Inc. Education Task Force, among others. She also serves as a mentor and has guided eight young people through high school graduation to pursue college and careers.
A Louisville native, Baumert holds a Master of Engineering degree from the University of Louisville Speed Scientific School. She has been the owner of a small software development company and an account marketing representative for IBM.
She succeeds founding Institute Director Bev Raimondo, who retired from the position earlier this year.
“We are so pleased to have Cindy as part of our team,” said Stu Silberman, executive director of the Prichard Committee. “Her strong leadership reflecting her expertise, commitment and passion will help ensure a high-quality experience for Kentucky’s parents.”
