From the Desk of Commissioner Kevin C. Brown. A Letter to Kentucky's Teachers and Staff, July 24, 2020

Dear Public School Family:

I just wanted to thank all of you who attended the “Reopening Kentucky Schools: Virtual Town Hall for Educators and Staff” on Thursday. We had more than 3,000 people watching this town hall, which was designed to share information about the guidance documents the Kentucky Department of Education has released and to answer your questions.

Having done weekly webcasts with superintendents and other stakeholders for more than three months now, I know there is never enough time to answer everybody’s questions. Yesterday was certainly no exception.

I want you to know that we heard your concerns and we will be working diligently over the next many days to answer your questions. You will be able to find those answers in our FAQ sheet that can be found on the KDE COVID-19 webpage. We already have hundreds of questions and answers that we’ve received since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Please take a look and know that we will be adding your questions to it in the coming days.

In the meantime, I wanted you to be able to see the story about the town hall that posted on Kentucky Teacher. In it you will find the list of questions that were answered on the webcast yesterday, along with links to many resources that you may find useful as your schools work to finish their reopening plans for the coming school year.

I want to thank you all for everything you do for Kentucky’s schools and children. Kentucky’s teachers and staff are the backbone of the education system and we would not be able to do our jobs without you. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and concerns with us and together, we will get through this.

Sincerely,

Kevin
