(MOREHEAD, KY) – GoTeachKY Ambassador Maddie Morgan says one of the best things about being an educator is the chance to make a difference.

“It’s so rewarding to be in these kids’ lives,” said Morgan, who is in her fifth year of teaching mathematics at Williamstown Independent. “Whether I’m teaching geometry, or at a baseball game supporting them outside of the classroom, I get to make a difference.”

Morgan was addressing a group of MSUTeach students at Morehead State University (MSU) on Feb. 13, sharing her insights and experiences in the teaching profession.

As a 2020 graduate of MSU with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, Morgan is one of 28 students that have graduated from the MSUTeach program since being introduced in 2017. MSUTeach is a teacher preparation program that allows students to pursue secondary school teacher certification within a four-year biology, chemistry, earth science, mathematics or physics degree program.

During her visit, Morgan emphasized the importance of effective teaching strategies, and the impact educators can have on student’s lives. She encouraged MSUTeach students to pursue their passion for teaching and to remain committed to professional growth and excellence.

MSU sophomore Gabi Watson was one of several students in attendance for Morgan’s presentation. She said she’s excited to be in her first year of the MSUTeach program.

“It’s such an amazing opportunity to go ahead and get in the classroom, allowing me to prepare for the profession once I graduate,” said Watson, who is currently observing at Rodburn Elementary School (Rowan County). “My mom is a 5th-grade elementary teacher. I’ve grown up watching her help students learn and grow, and now that’s something I want experience as a teacher.”

Morgan is one of 21 Kentucky teachers selected for the 2024-2025 GoTeachKY Ambassador Program. Ambassadors travel throughout the state providing valuable information to those considering teaching careers and help elevate the profession.

“Being in the ambassador program allows me to give back in a way that other professions don’t get to,” Morgan said. “I’m able to talk to students that are interested in teaching and get to be a small part of their journey.”
