The Kentucky League of Cities (KLC) is offering a series of lesson plans targeted to elementary school students in conjunction with City Government Month in September, during which KLC hopes to educate the public about the importance of local government through an awareness campaign.
The program consists of 15 lesson plans that are designed for grades 3-5, but can be adapted for any grade level. These lessons can be used over a three-week time frame or individually, and they are tied directly to the Kentucky Academic Standards. City Government Month includes an implementation guide, lesson plans, a coloring and activity book and an interactive website.
Students also can follow the program mascot, ’Tucky, on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and classrooms can share the activities they are doing to celebrate civics.
