Regional Educational Laboratory Appalachia is hosting four workshops in July across Kentucky on teaching literacy skills and academic content to English learners for individuals and teams of educators who work with ELs.
The workshop is based on recommendations in the Institution of Education Sciences Practice Guide, “Teaching Academic Content and Literacy to English Learners in Elementary and Middle School,” and is designed to provide hands-on examples of how to plan and implement those recommendations.
Joan Morris, one of the guide’s panelists, will present on the guide’s scope, evidence base and recommendations. Local practitioners will lead breakout sessions to discuss and demonstrate practical strategies for implementing the recommendations.
The schedule of workshops is:
- July 12, Knicely Conference Center, Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green
- July 13, Holiday Inn Louisville East – Hurstbourne, Louisville
- July 14, Embassy Suites Lexington
- July 15, Receptions Banquet Hall, Erlanger
