Applications are now being accepted for the Earle C. Clements Innovation in Education Award for Civics and History Teachers, which recognizes promising and innovative Kentucky high school history or civics teachers.

Three teachers will be chosen by an independent review panel for the awards, which are presented by the National Archives and the University of Kentucky Wendell H. Ford Public Policy Research Center, and will receive $1,000 each.

Criteria for the award include:

  • the teacher’s knowledge of and enthusiasm for the subject and commitment to increasing student awareness of the importance of public service. The teacher should demonstrate expertise in civics and history content and the ability to share it with students;
  • impact on student success; and
  • evidence of creativity and innovation.

The Clements award recognizes the life and career of Clements, a former governor, congressman and senator, and his lifelong commitment to education and public service.
