Apply now for a 3-day free professional development workshop hosted by the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., where you’ll learn and practice strategies for using primary sources with K-12 students.

Two sessions will be held next summer:

  • July 9-11, 2025
  • July 16-18, 2025

Visit the Library of Congress Summer Professional Development workshops webpage for more information.

Educators of all disciplines are invited to apply! Organizers will discuss resources and strategies to effectively integrate primary sources into K-12 classroom teaching. Each session will focus on pedagogy, with an emphasis on supporting student engagement, critical thinking, and construction of knowledge.

While practicing these teaching strategies, attendees will explore some of the millions of digitized historical artifacts and documents available in the Library’s collections. They will also conduct research to identify primary sources and develop an activity related to their classroom content.

The institute and instructional materials are provided at no cost. Participants will be responsible for transportation to and from Washington, D.C., as well as any required overnight accommodations. Upon successful completion of the workshop, participants will receive a certificate for 30 hours of professional development.

The application deadline is Friday, Jan. 31, 2025. All applications require a letter of recommendation.
