Partnership Institute for Math and Science Education Reform (PIMSER) is hosting several professional development opportunities that begin in October.

  • KY Administrator Science Boot Camp: This three-day series is tailored to elementary and middle school principals and district instructional leaders. Learn how to strategically put in place necessary supports that will continue to grow the school and district science program and improve learning for all students. First day will be Oct. 15.
  • Transform Student Learning and Harness Engagement Using a Science HQIR: This will be an introduction to the OpenSciEd units for elementary, middle and high school. The day will provide an awareness of the units and how they align to support the Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS) and the Kentucky Summative Assessments (KSA). First session will be held Oct. 28.
  • Good Mathematical Questions for Students: How can teachers create high-quality mathematical questions to differentiate instruction for student success? Teachers will experience open questions using grade-level KAS for Mathematics. Teachers will also explore recognizing the depth of knowledge of grade-level questions to determine academic rigor and intent of KAS for Mathematics. Event date is Oct. 22.
  • Unlocking Energy Transfer: This two-day session is tailored for fourth-grade science teachers, focusing on the newly released OpenSciEd Unit 4.1: Energy Transfer. The day will provide knowledge of how the unit aligns to support KAS and the thinking required on KSA. Event will be held Oct. 24-25.
  • Science Leadership Support Network: Join PIMSER, Kentucky Department of Education science consultants and other science leaders from across the state as we work to grow real aspiring science programs across Kentucky at all levels with the Science Leadership Support Network. Sessions begin Oct. 29 and Oct. 30.
