The Kentucky Board of Education (KBE) approved taking the next steps in the search for a new commissioner of education to negotiate a contract with “Vendor A” during a special KBE meeting on Nov. 28.
KBE member Steve Trimble, leader of the board’s Request For Proposals (RFP) Evaluation Committee, said the committee met on Nov. 27 to review proposals submitted in response to the solicitation.
“Because of the requirements of Kentucky Revised Statutes – Chapter 45A, we are unable to release the name of Vendor A at this time,” he said.
The scope of work for the search firm will entail identifying potential candidates, screening candidate submissions, meeting with potential candidates and coordinating with the KBE throughout the process.
“We will certainly get information out about Vendor A as soon as the confidentiality terms have been lifted,” said the KBE Vice Chair Lu S. Young. “They (the RFP Evaluation Committee) took this responsibility very seriously, as you would imagine, and have given this decision the time and consideration it deserves.”
The original recommendation to post an RFP for the commissioner search was approved during the KBE meeting on Aug. 21. Trimble said committee members first met on Nov. 2 to discuss the bids they received and determined it would not be in the best interest of the Commonwealth to award a contract as a result of the responses reviewed.
The KBE then voted to post a new RFP during a special KBE meeting on Nov. 6.
Now that the vendor has been selected, the processing of a contract can take up to 30 days. Once a contract is finalized, it will be available for public review.
