Charlie Brock is Estill County’s new superintendent of schools.
Brock, a native of London, Ky., has more than two decades of education experience under his belt. He started his career teaching mathematics and coaching basketball in Laurel County, and later served as assistant principal and principal at Somerset High School. Since 2019, Brock has been serving as an instructional supervisor at Berea Independent Schools.
Brock started July 1, and said he looks forward to building a community with students, staff and administrators.
“I want to know all the employees in the school district and create connections,” he said. “In a small district, it is extremely valuable to build relationships.”
One of Brock’s main goals as superintendent is to help students move forward academically and provide them with every opportunity to have a productive life.
“Not every child has someone supporting them and their future,” he said.
Though he has big plans for the district, Brock said he knows it will take teamwork to make them a reality.
“This is not a one-man job,” he said. “I am excited to join the Engineers Nation and work closely with all staff to provide exceptional education and opportunities.” The district’s mascot is the Engineer.
Brock has a wife and four children, and said he is eager for his family to integrate into the community. Brock’s daughter is heading off to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology this fall as a new student.
“She is going to school to be an engineer this year,” he said. “And so am I.”
