Executive Administrative Secretary Joette Fields has been with the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) since November of 2018.
This isn’t her first stop with state government, however.
Fields served as assistant director of the division of highway design for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and retired from transportation in August 2017 after 33 years of service.
After a full recovery from major spinal surgery, Fields found her way to KDE in the Office of the Commissioner.
In her current role, Fields provides professional administrative support to the Kentucky Board of Education (KBE) and KBE Executive Director Jennifer Fraker.
“I am responsible for ensuring KBE members have all necessary information and materials needed to prepare for and conduct their meetings efficiently and professionally,” she said. “I am also responsible for ensuring meeting logistics are taken care of before, during and after each KBE meeting.”
Fields attended Second Street School and Frankfort High School (Frankfort Independent) before completing her education at Kentucky State University.
The Frankfort native said that working for KDE has provided her the opportunity to work with and learn from some of the Commonwealth’s best education leaders.
“I get to work with some of the most amazing education leaders in the state as they implement policy and regulations to improve education for Kentucky’s students,” said Fields. “I take pride in my role as the executive assistant to the board and take pride in my role in making sure KBE meetings run smoothly.”
Fields has two children – Andrew (31) and Kristen (25). Andrew has been in the Navy since 2011 and is currently stationed in Sigonella, Italy. She is a proud grandmother – or GiGi – to her grandson AJ (2) and granddaughter Harley (1).
In her spare time, Fields volunteers in her church office and enjoys cooking, crafting, decorating and traveling.
When reading this I feel so much pride because I worked with Joette over 30 years ago. To see how much she accomplished is so impressive. Well done Joette
You could not have found a better person to recognize that Joette, I work with her in our church office and know how efficient she is… Congratulations to Joette!
