(FRANKFORT, Ky.) – Following Gov. Matt Bevin’s issuance of an executive order expanding the Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship to now include dual credit courses in Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways for high school students, Interim Commissioner of Education Wayne Lewis released the following statement:

“This executive order is a game changer for education, workforce training and economic development in Kentucky. It builds on the initial version of the Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship to now include applied associate degrees and additional credit hours at the postsecondary level in Kentucky’s top five high-demand workforce sectors.

“But for school districts, what is most exciting about the program’s newest version is its expansion to now include CTE dual credit courses that are part of pathways leading to industry recognized credentials. Beginning this fall, this scholarship will be a critical tool for more aggressively attacking Kentucky’s skills gap and preparing more of our young people for the workforce and postsecondary education.”
