Spring is well underway, and with the season comes warm weather, horse racing and the staple of high schools around the country – prom.
On May 12, students from Franklin County danced, struck silly poses in a photo booth, dipped marshmallows in a chocolate fountain and hugged each other under a gazebo covered in lights.
“I really do feel like a princess,” said one student as she walked through the dressed up garden of the Kentucky Historical Society, where the prom was held.
“We didn’t really know where this was going to happen,” said Terry Johnson, a teacher at Franklin County High School who helped organize the event. “But I had a friend here at the history center and we put this together and I think it turned out really well. We were going for a Keeneland type of feel and it worked out well.”
Students and their guests were greeted by a red carpet and entered through a tunnel of balloons that lead to the dance floor.
There were several “wows” uttered by students as they entered the dance area.
The garden at the Kentucky Historical Society helped to set the theme for the night, “Waltz of the Willows.”
