Jodi Grant Jones, a teacher at Eastside Middle School (Bullitt County), has been named the 2017 Kentucky Health Teacher of the Year by the Kentucky Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (KAHPERD).
Jones was honored Nov. 12 during KAHPERD’s fall convention in Lexington.
She said the award does not belong to her, but those whom she works with and has known as professional friends, including physical education and health teacher Dennis Minnis of North Bullitt High School (Bullitt County).
“Having the support and encouragement of my colleagues has inspired me to do my best,” she said. “Mr. Minnis has been such a role model who has given me advice, training and resources to point me in the right directions of physical fitness and health. It takes a team to help you get where you want to go, and I have this in Eastside and Mr. Minnis.
“I don’t feel like it is my award. I am very honored. I feel like it is my kids, staff, administration and Mr. Minnis who earned the award. It belongs to them. They are the ones that make me who I am, and I don’t think I could earn anything or be part of anything without their help and support.”
Jones also is the Bullitt County schools’ 2017-18 District Middle School Teacher of the Year.
