The holiday season is here and what better way to start than dressing up in costumes and getting a bunch of candy?
Part of what makes Halloween fun is just the sheer number of ways people celebrate it. From fall festivals and trick or treating, to pizza parties and watching scary movies, there’s really no way to go wrong on Halloween.
For this photo blog, I decided I’d see how two different schools in Woodford County celebrate Halloween.
At Northside Elementary I visited their annual Fall Festival, whose proceeds go to fund the Northside Elementary Parent Teacher Organization. Children crawled through bounce house obstacle courses, picked prizes out of a coffin and marched through the halls in a costume parade.
“The fall festival is one of the PTO’s biggest events of the year,” said Principal Ryan Asher. “It’s a fun time. Definitely seems like a big success this year.”
Meanwhile at Huntertown Elementary, students celebrated Halloween by coming to school dressed in their costumes and having class parties throughout the day.
“We really try to give things a good mix of having fun and getting things done,” said Principal Elaine Kaiser. “We think we do a good job.”
Teachers wore coordinated costumes depending on their grade, but the kindergarten and 1st-grade teachers both dressed up as Play-Doh thanks to a slight mix up.
“The kindergarten teachers talked to each other about what to be, but we didn’t talk to the 1st-grade teachers,” said Gina Lawson, a kindergarten teacher at Huntertown. “So we kind of ended up doing the same thing, but they have different hats than us. Theirs are bigger so I just say we’re the fun size.”
One district, two schools and a lot of smiling kids in costumes.
What more could you want from Halloween?
