High school students who are interested in cancer research may apply for the Emperor Science Award program, an initiative designed to empower them to become the next generation of cancer researchers.
PBS LearningMedia and Stand Up To Cancer choose 100 students in grades 10 and 11 each year for the opportunity to work on an important cancer research project. Students are paired with a mentoring scientist or team, and receive a Google Chromebook and a $1,500 stipend.
The award program, inspired by Ken Burns’ documentary, “Cancer: The Emperor of All Maladies,” is open to students who have a strong scientific interest, especially in cancer research and care. Five Kentucky students were chosen for the program last year.
The application deadline is Nov. 1. Visit the program’s website for more information.
