The Verizon Foundation and the Technology Student Association (TSA) is offering a grant opportunity for new schools to help them launch a TSA program.
TSA supports a wide range of educational opportunities in STEM for middle school and high school students, as well as for teachers. TSA members are able to apply and integrate STEM concepts through teamwork, leadership activities, problem solving and hands-on experiences.
TSA has identified a number of its state delegations with historically underrepresented populations and is offering participation in The TSA 100 to some middle schools and high schools in those states. TSA will award 100 schools nationwide – up to 10 per state – a program grant for the 2017-18 school year that would cover these expenses related to creating and running a TSA chapter.
- Membership dues (local, state and national) for a 10-member chapter, plus one adviser;
- A $200 cash allotment for materials and supplies for the technology lab (not electronic devices);
- Official TSA shirts for 10 members, plus one adviser;
- A “Student Leadership Challenge” textbook for the adviser and 10 workbooks for chapter members;
- “Student Leadership Challenge” training for the adviser;
- A $200 stipend for one chapter adviser, to be given in June 2018; and
- Professional membership for one adviser in the International Technology and Engineering Education Association (ITEEA).
Grants are available only to schools that have not been affiliated with TSA for at least two years. The application deadline is Oct. 1. Email Suzy Orr for more information or an application.
