The Kentucky Department of Education will host two work sessions related to the through-course task (TCT) component of its new science assessment system.

The Field Test Student Work Review/Task Update work session will be offered June 6-7 at the 300 Building in Frankfort.

This session will include analysis and annotation of student work copies, as well as modifications to the task and task annotation document, if appropriate. Participants will likely work with another teacher at their grade level with the task they used this year for the TCT field test.

New Through Course Task Development work sessions will be offered at three locations:

  • June 12-13 – Elizabethtown, Early College and Career Center
  • June 15-16 – Prestonsburg, Big Sandy Community and Technical College
  • June 20-21 – Gilbertsville, Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park

These sessions will support development of new grade-level tasks in order to expand the current TCT bank for use in the upcoming school year. Teams of two teachers (applicants may request a specific partner) will complete this work at each grade level. Participants will commit to participating in the initial work session on two consecutive days, during which they will receive training for task development and develop two tasks with a partner teacher at their grade level.

Participants will use each task with their students during the fall semester, reconvene with their partners and update the task, if necessary. Support will be provided as needed during this process.

Ideal candidates for both sessions will have participated in the TCT field test using the three-step collaborative process, as well as have a strong understanding of the dimensions of the Kentucky Academic Standards for Science.

The registration deadline is May 15. Applicants may apply for one or both sessions; selected applicants will be notified by May 23. Meals and lodging expenses will be reimbursed for those who qualify.
