Heesung Choi, a special education teacher at The Learning Center at Linlee (Fayette County), recently received a certificate of appreciation at the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Chicago to thank her for her devotion and hard work in sharing about Korea with Fayette County students and the Lexington community.
Choi teaches an exploratory class at The Learning Center that covers Korean culture, language and food. Consul General Jong-Kook Lee presented her certificate on behalf of the vice prime minister, commending Choi for offering the first Korean class of its kind for elective credit in a Kentucky public school.
Each year, the Korean Ministry of Education honors people who contribute in diverse fields of education. Choi was singled out for her work in the overseas Korean education field. She was the only teacher in the United States to receive this honor.
