The Purchase Area Writing Project is accepting applications for its summer institute for teachers and for its writing workshop for high school students this summer at Murray State University.

PAWP Summer Institute

The Purchase Area Writing Project (PAWP) Summer Institute, which gives teachers the opportunity to develop and hone their ability to improve students’ writing skills, will be June 5-23.

The institute is open to teachers in grades K-12 in all content areas, who must agree to serve as writing consultants during the 2017-18 school year. Participants will receive six hours of graduate credit.

Goals of the institute include improved writing skills and literacy instruction, a better understanding of writing processes and assessment methods, development of instructional materials, improved communication between university faculty and public school teachers and a greater understanding of educational changes in Kentucky.

Purchase Area Writing Workshop

The Purchase Area Writing Workshop (PAWW), which allows high school students to work on their creative writing with MSU professors and working writers, will be June 11-17.

Residential workshop activities will include film screenings and opportunities to hear speakers talk about issues that will engage students’ critical and creative thinking. Courses include a poetry workshop, a fiction workshop and seminars in both genres.
