The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) will come to your classroom for hands-on fun! It is time to book lessons for the spring. The historical society is offering a discounted rate for teachers that would like to participate in its job-embedded professional development program.

KHS brings this standards-based, art-infused history lesson to your classroom. Students analyze historic images from the KHS collection, discuss what they see and do a fun, hands-on art activity.

Options for lessons include:

  • artifact analysis and drawing;
  • pioneer pastimes (making marbles or spinning wool);
  • writing citizenship letters or bill proposals with a quill pen and ink; and
  • reading maps and designing a town.

Students can experience making a:

  • Civil War or explorer journal;
  • Native American pinch pot;
  • campaign button;
  • Kentucky invention; or
  • timeline of progress.
