Kentucky Department of Education Professional Learning
Increase mathematical knowledge for teaching to positively impact student learning by participating in professional learning that focuses on:

  • Kentucky Academic Standards, including the students’ standards for mathematical practices;
  • Shifts in the mathematics standards: focus, coherence and rigor (conceptual understanding, procedural fluency and application); and
  • Effective teaching practices for mathematics. (Principles to Actions, NCTM 2014)

Kentucky Center for Mathematics
Join Kentucky mathematics educators for #KYMathChat hosted by @KyCenterforMath at 9 p.m. ET Feb. 21 and March 14.

The monthly #KYMathChat provides an opportunity for educators from across the Commonwealth to connect with one another and discuss important issues in mathematics teaching and learning. Previous topics have included coherence in instruction, mathematical habits of mind and bridging student gaps.

Illustrative Mathematics (IM) Professional Learning
Dive deeper into the mathematics that students need to know at a teacher level with this self-paced online course in Moodle, based on the Fractions Progression. The course consists of an introduction and seven units related to fractions in grades 3-5. Each unit includes a short video, tasks, readings and quizzes. Once you register, you will be sent a login and directions to access the course; technology support is offered as necessary. Complete it on your own or get your whole school or department involved.

(IM) Task Talk Tuesdays
Task Talks are virtual math conversations for teachers and teacher leaders around an Illustrative Mathematics specific task. They convene weekly, 8 p.m. ET Tuesday on Adobe Connect. Grade levels alternate by week and the current task to be discussed is posted on @IllustrateMath’s Facebook page before the talk.

Mathematics Assessment Project Professional Learning
These Shell Center Professional Learning modules support teaching in the 21st century and emphasize the standards for mathematical practice. This series features guides, videos and materials.

Introduction to the Instructional Materials Evaluation Tool (IMET) Mathematics Professional Development
This Achieve the Core math specific module is designed to give a high-level overview of the IMET to various stakeholders. The module includes a presentation, handouts and a facilitator guide. The Kentucky District Off-List Notification Information page contains information on Kentucky’s evaluation tool for K-8 and high school; both incorporate the IMET.
