Donald Fleu, director of finance for Boyd County Public Schools, received the Goldenrod Outstanding School Business Official Award given annually by the Kentucky Association of School Business Officials (KASBO). The award goes to an individual who best represents exemplary practices and standards of school business in a Kentucky public school district.
Fleu served three years on KASBO’s board of directors and has been an active participant in the Kentucky Educational Development Corporation finance cadre. He currently serves on an Advisory Committee to Kentucky Associate Commissioner of Education Hiren Desai that gathers local feedback regarding state financial decisions and the impact of state policies and procedures.
“Don is far beyond a man of numbers, calculations and mathematical formulas,” Boyd County Schools Superintendent Brock Walter wrote in the nomination application. “He is a man that values education and invests his time, with little knowledge by the larger portion of the district, to provide financial oversight that assures academics are supported and maintained to the highest degree of financial support possible.”
Fleu received the award during the October meeting of the Boyd County Board of Education and was recognized Nov. 19 at the KASBO Fall Conference in Lexington. KASBO also will fund a $1,000 scholarship, which will be awarded to a student within the recipient’s district and selected at the recipient’s discretion.
