The Kentucky Department of Parks will host REACH: Beyond the Classroom, a series of open houses for educators, July 15 at 28 Kentucky State Parks.
The program will feature discussions on primary educational field experiences available at the parks and on REACH (Recreational, Environmental and Cultural History) overnight camps and programming. It will include a facility tour, a sample interactive program and information on the Inside Out Education grant available through the Kentucky State Parks Foundation.
Open houses will be held at these state parks and historic sites: Barren River Lake, Big Bone Lick, Blue Licks Battlefield, Buckhorn Lake, Carter Caves, Columbus Belmont, Cumberland Falls, Dr. Thomas Walker, E.P. “Tom” Sawyer, Fort Boonesborough, General Butler, Jefferson Davis, Jenny Wiley, John James Audubon, Kentucky Dam Village, Lake Barkley, Lake Cumberland, My Old Kentucky Home, Natural Bridge, Old Fort Harrod, Old Mulkey Meeting House, Pennyrile Forest, Perryville Battlefield, Pine Mountain, Waveland, White Hall, Wickliffe Mounds and William Whitley House.
Programs will begin at 10:30 a.m. local time at each site and will end by noon. The registration deadline is July 9; contact the park of your choice to register. Email Elizabeth Schmitz or Lisa Deavers for more information.
